Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind

igdb

Founded in 1976, by the late Mary Dunlop and our current President, Jim Dennehy, we are a unique organisation dedicated to providing services which bring mobility and independence to blind and visually impaired people as well as people with other disabilities.  Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind

Our services include guide dog training, long cane training, courses in independent living skills and child mobility programme.  We also provide Assistance Dogs for families of children with Autism – a first for Europe.

As a registered charity that relies on approximately 85% of its income from fundraising and voluntary donations, support from the public is vital. It will cost over €4.7 million to run the organisation in 2010.

It costs over €38,000 to breed, train and support a guide dog partnership. It is thanks to people’s generosity that we are able to help persons who are blind, vision impaired and disabled achieve independence and mobility through our world-class guide dog and ancillary services.

OUR VISION

A future where persons who are blind, vision impaired and disabled achieve independence and dignity through our world-class dog and ancillary services.

OUR MISSION

To provide the highest quality of services in partnership with our clients while planning for the future and valuing clients, volunteers and each other.

Enable Ireland

Enable Ireland Logo

In 1993 Enable Ireland sowed a seed of support for the community in Kerry and over the past 17 years, our team has worked tirelessly to ensure that Kerry children with disabilities get every possible opportunity to achieve their potential. We provide physical therapies such as physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and occupational therapy together with assistance in the home and at school and provision of social opportunities such as summer camps, evening activities and youth groups.

We do all we can to ensure that a disability is not an obstacle to a child expressing themselves, building friendships, playing sports, accessing education and participating in the community.thegooch

As a result, demand for our children’s services has grown to such an extent that in 2009 we made an even stronger commitment to current and future generations of children in Kerry.

With the building of a brand new much-needed children’s centre in Oakpark Village, Tralee.

This new state of the art centre was an expensive new venture, as we received no state funding. In these difficult times, we face a real challenge in meeting our repayments. But we knew we had to expand our facilities in order to best look after the interests of those who need our services.

By supporting the Dingle Adventure Race you can help children and adults with physical disabilities achieve their full potential.  Thank you for Taking Action on Disability.

Our Mission

Enable Ireland’s mission is to work in partnership with those who use our services to achieve maximum independence, choice and inclusion in their communities.
